Studio Policies

These policies provide consistency for students while leaving reasonable flexibility for illness, emergencies, and the realities of individual schedules.

Tuition & Enrollment

Tuition is paid monthly and maintains the student's active enrollment and reserved place in the studio. Monthly tuition is not calculated according to attendance at individual lessons.

Standard tuition is based on four lessons per month:

  • 60 minutes: $320/month

  • 45 minutes: $240/month

  • 30 minutes: $160/month

  • 90 minutes: $480/month

Tuition is due at the beginning of each month and must be paid by the 7th. Alternate payment arrangements, including semimonthly payments, may be established in advance.

Some months may contain a fifth lesson week. These additional weeks provide flexibility within the studio calendar and do not increase monthly tuition.

Attendance & Cancellations

A regular lesson time is reserved specifically for each student. Please give at least 24 hours' notice when a lesson must be canceled or rescheduled.

With at least 24 hours' notice, students may receive one makeup lesson per month, subject to studio availability.

Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, forgotten lessons, and no-shows are ordinarily forfeited and do not reduce monthly tuition.

Illness and genuine emergencies are exceptions. Please contact me as soon as reasonably possible. Students and families are not expected to predict sudden illness 24 hours in advance, and reasonable accommodations will be made when circumstances are outside your control.

Makeup Lessons

Makeup lessons provide flexibility without displacing another student's reserved lesson time.

  • One student-initiated makeup lesson is available per month.

  • Makeup lessons are scheduled according to available openings in the studio calendar.

  • A makeup may be on a different day, at a different time, or with a different lesson length when necessary.

  • Makeup lessons do not reduce or carry forward monthly tuition.

  • Once a makeup lesson has been scheduled, it ordinarily cannot be rescheduled again.

  • Unused makeup opportunities do not accumulate from month to month.

Additional flexibility may be offered for significant illness, family emergencies, disability-related circumstances, or other unusual situations at my discretion.

Teacher Cancellations

If I need to cancel a lesson, the lesson will be rescheduled or credited. A teacher cancellation will never count against a student's makeup allowance.

Illness

Please do not attend an in-person lesson when you are contagious or too unwell to participate comfortably.

Depending on the circumstances, an illness-related lesson may be:

  • moved online,

  • rescheduled,

  • converted to another appropriate form of instruction, or

  • handled as an excused absence.

Communication is more important than rigid notice requirements when someone becomes unexpectedly ill.

Late Arrival

Students arriving late are welcome to use the remainder of their scheduled lesson. Lessons will still end at the scheduled time so that the next student's lesson can begin on time.

If I am responsible for a delayed start, the lost time will be restored or otherwise made up.

Scheduling Changes

Regular lesson times are maintained whenever possible. Permanent schedule changes may be requested and will be accommodated when studio availability permits.

Occasional scheduling conflicts should normally be handled through the makeup policy rather than repeatedly moving a student's regular lesson time.

Ending or Pausing Lessons

Enrollment and tuition continue from month to month until lessons are ended or paused.

Please provide notice before the beginning of the next billing month if you intend to discontinue lessons. Once tuition for a month has begun, the student's enrollment and lesson time remain active through that month.

Students who pause lessons are welcome to return, but a previous lesson time cannot be guaranteed after tuition is no longer active.

Communication & Flexibility

These policies establish the normal operation of the studio rather than attempting to anticipate every circumstance. Illness, emergencies, disability-related needs, family circumstances, and other significant situations may require a different arrangement.

When something unusual happens, communicate with me. Reasonable exceptions and alternate arrangements can be made without changing the basic expectation that monthly tuition maintains active enrollment and reserved teaching time.
