Private Lessons
Learn music through the piano and organ, with available concentrations in piano performance, organ performance, improvisation, music theory, conducting, and other areas of musicianship. Students may focus on these areas according to their interests and goals, using them as tools for deeper musical understanding rather than a required checklist of proficiencies. Lessons develop skill and technique while keeping the whole of the music in view, from its structure and movement to the smallest details of sound.
Private lessons are centered on a 60-minute weekly lesson, providing time to explore repertoire and individual goals through playing, listening, singing, improvising, analyzing, conducting, and other ways of engaging with music. This flexible model grew out of adaptive teaching and now shapes my work with all students, providing multiple paths into the same musical ideas and allowing the lesson to take shape around each individual student.
Free 30-Minute Consultation
New students may begin with a free 30-minute consultation. This is an opportunity to talk through goals, experience, scheduling, lesson length, accessibility, and tuition arrangements, while also spending some time at the instrument for a sample of what a lesson might look like.
There is no obligation to enroll. The consultation helps us determine an appropriate starting point and a lesson structure that works for the student.
Tuition Rates
60-minute lessons
$320 per month
45-minute lessons
$240 per month
30-minute lessons
$160 per month
90-minute lessons
$480 per month
Standard tuition is based on an $80 hourly rate and four lessons per month. Months with five lessons do not incur separate cost.
Tuition is paid at the beginning of each month and is due by the 7th. Monthly tuition reserves the student’s regular lesson time.
Different payment schedules and arrangements are available by agreement. For example, tuition may be divided into two monthly payments when that structure is more workable.
The 60-Minute Lesson
For most students, 60 minutes is the standard lesson length. A full hour allows enough time to work carefully without rushing from one task to another. Lessons may include repertoire, technique, sight-reading, theory, improvisation, listening, interpretation, and other areas appropriate to the student.
Other Lesson Lengths Available:
45 minutes provides additional working time beyond a half-hour lesson while remaining a more compact format.
30 minutes may be appropriate for younger students, beginners, or students who work best with shorter periods of concentrated instruction.
90 minutes is available for advanced study, intensive coaching, organ study, longer repertoire, or other work that benefits from an extended lesson.
Scheduling
Most students meet once each week at a regular lesson time.
Other structures can be arranged. This might include longer lessons less frequently, occasional coaching, a different lesson duration, or another schedule developed around the student’s needs and goals.
Tuition Assistance
Reduced tuition is available when the standard rate presents a barrier to study.
There is no separate scholarship application. Students and families may contact me directly to discuss a workable rate. Reduced tuition arrangements depend on current studio capacity.
Individualized & Accessible Study
Lessons are individualized to the student. Instruction can be adapted for different learning styles, communication methods, sensory needs, physical access needs, developmental disabilities, and other ways of engaging with music.
Adaptation may involve lesson length, pacing, teaching methods, materials, communication, or the ways a student participates in music. Musical study remains centered on meaningful engagement, growth, and the student’s own goals.
Getting Started
New students are welcome to contact me about lesson availability, goals, scheduling, accessibility, tuition, or alternate payment arrangements.
